Last weekend was a long weekend in NZ, Monday was the Queen’s birthday. No, it wasn’t really, but the first Monday in June is when the kiwis celebrate. So what is a traditional way of celebrating? Heading into the mountains once more before winter may make it too dangerous to go tramping. We went to Mount Somers, a 1 1/2 hour drive from home, and did a loop trail that was very cool. A little bit of everything: forest, canyons, plateau, tussock grass, steep cliffs, an idyllic hut and gusty wind.
