cold in summer

Although I didn’t really suffer any jetlag, the journey did catch up with me and Thursday I started coughing, Friday came sneezing and sniffing, and since Saturday I am having the most dreadful cold. Feeling absolutely mid-winterish, going through millions of tissues and unable to sleep from headaches and the inability to breath. Fantastic.

Nevertheless some activities during the weekend. Friday Joel asked if I wanted to come out to their Lakehouse, to which I said yes. It’s only half an hour away from Ann Arbor, and once there we went for an “around-the-lake-in-the-boat”. The family all took their turn water-skiing, I decided to wait for a slightly better (less sniffy) moment to try it out. Circling a lake with a “whoopee!!!” water-skiing prof definitely tops the Spanish professor who took us all out dancing in terms of "coolest prof".

After this I had some time to skype with Thomas, and afterwards we had a lovely dinner and went again in the boat for a twilight-tour and played games until after midnight. Then came the happy announcement “Nina, are you still in for the farmer’s market tomorrow? Yes? Ok, we need to leave here at 6:20”. So I got up at six and Cindy and me met her best friend at the market, had coffee and strolled around, buying happy things like strawberries, rhubarb, asparagus, real fresh mozzarella and some second hand books. It was fun, but when I got home I went straight back to bed. Unfortunately the neighbour was mowing his lawn for the rest of the day, so no sleep.

Sunday I decided to go for a swim in the 50 m outdoor pool. It was a very basic pool, 50 m of water and some concrete around it, but the swim was good. But afterwards I was so exhausted I slept another couple of hours.

So my goal for this second week is to get better, and run a lot of samples in the lab.
