I wasn't really following the Pike river mine explosion very closely, as it seems every week lately some mine somewhere has had issues and deaths. Sort of proves to me mining really isn't sustainable in any way.
But now that they are most certainly dead, I realize this is another blow for NZ. NZ is a small country, if someone dies, everyone dies a little. At least that is how it feels. People are really sad.
