Interior design

Some home décor today. With Thomas’ arrival drawing nearer (although still no exact date), or perhaps more critically the arrival of (part of) his book collection, I decided the time was ripe to purchase bookshelves.

In case you were wondering, that is a bag of soil samples on the lower shelf.

When the guy I bought them off delivered them he asked “just moved in?” and I had to say “ehm, well, actually it’s been 6 months…”. The house is still pretty bare. Which is actually nice. Personally I think things are coming along quite nicely too, although it is still a far cry from any modern form of stylish interior design. Considering that everything came from random garage sales and online auctions, it still exhibits a certain Nina-style. I need more plants though. And obviously a pair of kittens would be nice…

Love this garage sale fruit bowl

And some images from the garden. Perhaps my next purchase will be a lawnmower.I’m getting a bit confused with all the cabbage varieties Gareth gave me, unsure which ones are actual cabbage, or turnips, or some Asian thing of which you eat the leaves. I can only indentify the kale:
And I do think there is at least one random weed in this photo:but it does look edible so I might put it in a salad. So far I have planted: at least 6 cabbage varieties (turnips, kale, broccoli and others), 4 types of lettuce, radishes, carrots, onions, sugar snaps, rhubarb, potatoes, maize, tomatoes, capsicums, strawberries, and assorted herbs. Who knows, this may turn me into a vegetable-eating person.

Finally good news on the earthquake-cracks in my house: they have been checked out by a structural engineer and all is good. We found even more cracks than I remembered seeing before, but they’re apparently all just superficial and the basic structure is undamaged. Must say, although I was pretty sure all would be fine, it is still good to know. Especially with the sun and warmth lately the wooden base of the house makes lots of creaking noises as it expands and retracts, but that is all perfectly normal.
