Back from fieldwork, and devastated by the Japan earthquakes. It is on the one hand so unimaginable, yet on the other hand we can so well imagine what it must be like, although it is of course much much much worse than we have experienced here.
Fieldwork was at times fun, at times wet, and at times scary. Mostly it was gruesome hard work again. I also had my birthday in the field, and that was one of the worst birthdays of my life. For the first time I really felt getting older. Tired and joints aching from all the soil hammering.
More details later. For now just letting you know I’m back and we did not have to follow any of the emergency plans! And Christchurch is still shaking.
