Suddenly it was
spring. The wind changed, bringing warm air, the sun shone, and it
was time for shorts, t-shirts and gardening.
Last weekend I had
bought some onion seedlings to plant, but fell into a dark mood
unable to bring myself to plant the onions.
This weekend we
bought much more vegetable seedlings and set out to redevelop the
vege beds.
Over winter we were
still able to grow some healthy stuff, so we have an ongoing
supply of leek, fennel, pak choi, herbs, and silverbeet for the
chickens and the snails.

| If you look closely these are red beets and onions |
 |
| sugar snaps and snow peas growing (hopefully) along the sticks I artfully arranged |
 |
| Rucola and lettuce, prime snail food... I planted the lettuce in between the garlic, hoping it might defer the snails. |
 |
| The pak choi that grew over winter and is now flowering beautifully |
 |
| The neighbour's kowhai tree in spring glory |
 |
| Thomas' growing cage for the raspberries |
This year I decided
I should try to keep better track of the gardening on the blog, and
also for myself to remember what is planted where and when. As long as the
snails don’t eat everything we should be quite self-sufficient
again over summer.
