Back from holidays

We’re back in smoldering hot Christchurch after 3 weeks filled with adventures. Soon(ish) I will post photos and relevant observations. For now:

  • The car didn’t break down in any way but just used lots of fuel
  • I lost my wallet, but with the best possible timing we were just heading to Wellington where I immediately could replace my bank card and driver license. Nevertheless, it was/is annoying.
  • Wellington is approximately 500 times cooler, nicer, hipper, trendier, beautifuller and better than Christchurch, but also a million times windier ("windy Welly") so that in the end I decided Chch is the better place to live.
  • Wellington was the only big NZ city at New Year’s Eve WITHOUT FIREWORKS. GRMBL.
  • I like the South Island better than the North Island.
  • I developed homesickness for Amsterdam, probably related to the fact that all the 3 times I was on the internet to cancel accounts related to the lost wallet, another someone I know from Amsterdam was pregnant or getting married. I feel like I’m missing out on big happenings and I miss my friends.
  • I love factor 85 sunscreen
  • The word of the 3 weeks was “arguably”. We have been to arguably the most beautiful NZ walk, the arguably largest lake in the Southern hemisphere, the arguably best view of the pacific, the arguably oldest NZ car/house, the arguably best surf beach … We usually argued that it was NOT true.
More on all of this later.

Oh, and happy new year to all. Although we had oliebollen shortly before the big day, the lack of fireworks, a group of slightly drunken friends and (seriously!) freezing slush blown in our faces made this one of the lesser exciting New Year Eves. Nevertheless I am sure 2011 will prove to be another exciting year and I wish the same to everyone else!
